What this is
A height restriction is anything that limits how tall a vehicle can be on a road: a railway bridge over a lane, a tunnel, a car park barrier, a low canopy. They are recorded as they are surveyed, and we keep a copy of that record, rebuilt weekly, so it can be shown as a map and as a table instead of as raw data.
Nobody publishes this as a public map, which is why these pages exist. The data has always been open; finding out whether your 3.2 m motorhome fits under the bridge on tomorrow's route should not require writing an Overpass query.
What the numbers mean
Each country page states how many restrictions are recorded there, how many of them state a height, and how the stated ones fall between 2.5 m and 4 m. Where a restriction carries no number, we say so rather than hiding it — an unsigned barrier is a real obstacle and the most dangerous thing a clearance map can do is imply that a missing figure means an open road.
Coverage differs sharply between countries. Germany, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom are mapped in detail; countries with fewer surveyors have gaps that no amount of presentation can fill. Each page says which regions are thin.

52 of them, each with enough surveyed data to be worth publishing. Every country has a page in English and, where the text exists, another in its own language, which is the one to send to somebody who lives there.
Is it free, and may I use the data?
The maps are free and need no account. The data underneath is OpenStreetMap’s, under the ODbL licence — you may use it yourself, as long as you credit it the way this page does.
